Well the tranny in my '97 went!! It had a check engine light don't remember code#. Something about the torque convertor & motor speed. So I parked it & drive the gmc for a few weeks. Drove the Dodge to work yesterday & it was surging a little, oh well it sat for two weeks!! Well on the way home it wouldn's shift out of first, checked the fluid & it's ok. Does anyone know of any good tranny shops locally?? It might be the valve body, I remember reading about the problem on ps.com & someone said the valve body is leaking by & not letting the tranny work correctly. This is all I need now, I was going to look for a house!! Now I have to put $$ into my DD!

do you have Overdrive?
most of the time, the overdrive torque converter clutch lining comes off, and plugs the cooler. this will lead to the death of overdrive, because the fluid from the cooler cools and lubes the overdrive planets and clutches. when they dont get any fluid, they burn up.
I would put the biggest cooler you can find on it, after a quick fluid and filter change. If you see metal in the filter, get the truck to a shop. If not, you might have gotten lucky.
I know a transmission shop that does GOOOD work for decent prices, even on this type of trans.

Finally got it in the shop & the tranny is toast. They found a lot of metal in the pan - rebuild time...

I had AAMCO do it, they have the best warranty. 3/36 with guarranty of no leaks! Cost me a few $$, but I plan on keeping the truck so I thought it was worth it.
